04 August Aquila Trial flight
Time for a little update. By now I got everything sorted for the flight training and the first part of the holiday. I also managed to get a couch to stay at in Chicago, about 30 minutes from the city centre.
This weekend I went to Lelystad airport where there is an Aquila A210 aircraft demonstrator. It's the plane that I'm considering to participate in, meaning that I buy 1/50th of the aircraft and get to fly against cost price and if there's a profit at the end of the year because of non participants fly at a surcharge of 20 euro per hour it's distributed back to the participants. A little complicated construction but it looks solid and the numbers are realistic.
So after checking the numbers I decided I wanted to check the plane out myself before making any commitments. Through the airwork forum I got into contact with the chairman of the KLM Aeroclub who offered the participation. More details about this thing when I decide what to do. I set up a meeting with Melvin Reep for the intro flight.
It's about a 1.5 hour drive from where I live so it's a bit of a hassle to get there but it was ok. I arrived and I was greeted by Melvin and we took a drink and sat down to talk the financial details over and stuff. Then it was time to head to the aircraft. It was the newest in the fleet and with its bright white color it was a great sight! The cockpit is pretty roomy and because of the full glass canopy the view is awesome. We took off and we did some turns, stalls and some ascending and descending. The cockpit was roomy and with the stick between the legs handling was easy and comfortable. The plane that is ordered for the participants will be even more luxurious then the demo model and will have a full glass cockpit. The last thing I want to mention is that the Aquila has a variable pitch propeller (variable spoet). This is more efficient then a fixed pitch propeller but I won't bore you with the details. It's just an extra thing to play with in the aircraft.
After landing I talked to some other pilots who walked around there and got a feeling of what the club life is about. More about that stuff when I experienced it myself soo see you later
Deze introductie gids heb ik geschreven voor iemand die zijn PPL in de USA wil halen en misschien dat het nog voor meer mensen handig kan zijn, dus daarom dit berichtje even tussendoor.
